Robert James French, of Wadsworth, age 89, passed away peacefully May 6, 2010 surrounded by loving family.
Born in Andover, Ohio he was preceded in death by his mother, Caroline French, an incredibly strong, independent woman. He was raised on a farm with his twin sister Betty , and many loving aunts and uncles.
He graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in mechanical engineering. Following his graduation he spent over 40 years at Goodyear Aerospace finishing his career at Interior Steel in Cleveland.
He was married to Geann (Bachman) for 63 years. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons Michael J. French DDS, wife Valerie and children Meredith and Christopher and also Steven R. French, wife Jenny and children Robert, Marissa, Chandler and Delaney. He is also survived by sister Betty Jarmusch and many nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, Grace Lutheran Church and a Charter member of Rawiga Country Club where he spent countless hours with many friends.
He cherished experiences such as whitewater rafting in the Grand Canyon, exploring the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, snow skiing in Aspen Colorado and vacationing in St. Petersburg, Florida. At home he loved designing and building lamps, furniture and all things mechanical. His workshop was his joy.
We are grateful for the wonderful care he received at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital and Hospice of Akron and especially thankful to Mona Homonai, his dedicated caregiver.
