Marie J. (Hayes) White, 85, a longtime resident of Wadsworth, Ohio passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Spring Meade Health Center in Tipp City, Ohio. Marie was born August 4, 1926 to the late William Hayes and Grace (Stuver) Cowling-Hayes in Kenmore, Ohio. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1946 and worked for the Bearfoot Sole Company and the Cornwell Tool Factory, both in Wadsworth. Marie married William "Bill" White, originally from New Castle, Pennsylvania on February 16, 1949. He precedes her in death. Marie is survived by their only child, Patricia (White) Kaplan and son-in-law Steve Kaplan of Troy, Ohio. Marie is also survived by her younger brother Raymond "Bud" Hayes. Her older siblings, Beatrice "Bea" (Cowling) Butdorf, Jack Cowling and Catherine "Betty" (Cowling) Davis all preceded her in death. Marie was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed counted cross stich, crocheting, knitting, crafts and volunteering at First Christian Church. After retiring in 1992, Marie moved to Troy in 1998 and then into the Spring Meade Retirement Center in 2004. The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Meade for their wonderful care. Marie loved living there. A viewing will be held at the Hilliard-Rospect Funeral Home, 174 North Lyman Street, Wadsworth on Wednesday, December 28th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A private burial will be held the next morning in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
