On Feb 4, 2010, the kindest, gentlest, most intelligent and capable dad and friend in the history of the world, Robert “Bob” Remark, 87, died peacefully with his family present in Sharon Twp, OH. Our mother and the love of his life, Janet, preceded him in death in 1999. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph William and Helen Louise Erdman Hinderman Remark, brother Joseph William Remark Jr., beloved aunt and uncle, Christine Cornell Erdman and Harold Erdman. Left with wonderful memories are his children, daughter and son-in-law Denise and Dennis Lundell, son and daughter-in-law Dan and Valeri Remark, grandchildren DJ, Abbi, and Rachel Remark, granddogs Butler, Mikey, and Bob, and grandkittens, Lottie and Precious. Buddy, his favorite granddog, died in July 2009.

Bob grew up in Akron and graduated from Buchtel HS in 1941, then attended the University of Akron, University of Connecticut, and University of Virginia, where he earned degrees in chemistry, mathematics, and engineering. He was a veteran of WWII, where he was assigned to graves registration, dis-armed booby-trapped bodies, and ran a brewery during the Occupation. Later, he was employed by the Defense Dept., where he supervised the programming of computers that operated the Titan I and Titan II ICBM’s. Additionally, he inspected reactor components for nuclear submarines and warships. A peace-loving man, he was a true Cold War warrior!

After retirement, Bob concentrated his effort and talent on his community of Sharon Twp. He also cared tenderly for our mother during her lengthy illness. Bob was a quiet man (with a wicked sense of humor), diligently working in the background, to enrich other’s lives. He was a gentle giant who will be remembered lovingly and missed each day.

A reception in Bob’s honor will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 2-5 PM at the Sharon Twp. Town Hall. He will be inurned at the Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
