Dohrman J. Wells passed away surrounded by family May 10, 2012 from congestive heart failure complications. Dohrman was born in Steubenville, OH on November 2, 1933 to the late George and Lillian Wells. He grew up in Steubenville and graduated in the class of 1951 from Steubenville High School. He was a proud member of the Big Red football team and received Ohio Valley Honors. Dohrman, also known as Dormie, proceeded to Mount Union College where he graduated in the class of 1955. While there he was active in Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a four year letterman and co-captain of the football team and an All Ohio Conference center, He also met Mary Lou, his wife of 56 years while at Mt. Union.
Upon graduation Dohrman joined the B.F. Goodrich Co. in their Management Training Program. He held several executive positions, the last being Site Manager of the B.F. Goodrich Company in Brecksville, OH. He retired in 1996 with 41 years of service to B.F. Goodrich.
Dohrman is a member of the Wadsworth United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Star Lodge #187 F&AM, a Paul Harris Rotary Member and a U.S. Navy Veteran. He is a former member of the Jaycees of Akron, Wadsworth Kiwanis, Wadsworth Rotary, Rawiga Country Club, Brecksville, OH Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Engineering Society, Safety Management.
Dohrman had various interests during his life; with football being number one. He was a loyal Cleveland Browns fan.
Dohrman was always very supportive and involved with his two sons, Doug and Mike. He assisted in Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, coached Little League & Pee Wee football. That interest remained through their high school and college sports and activities. Dohrman was a wonderful "grandpa". His five grandchildren were the joy of his life.
After retirement Dohrman & Mary Lou wintered in Florida. They settled in Siesta Key in their condo, La Siesta. Dohrman was very active there, especially planning the golf tournament for several years. He treasured his many La Siesta friendships, Sarasota Delta Delta Delta Alumnae and their husbands monthly beach gatherings and Church of the Palms.
Dohrman is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, sons Douglas (Evelyn) Wells, their children; Mary Evelyn Lowndes Wells and Dohrman Hampton Preston Wells of Charleston, S.C., Dr. Michael (Ann Maria) Wells and their children; Michael Dohrman Wells, Alexandra Chloe Wells and Sophia Antigone Wells of Green, OH, sister Shirley Ann Mitchell of Wintersville, OH and nephews Kevin Mitchell of Wintersville, OH and Kenny Mitchell of San Jose, Ca and their families.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 4:30 - 8:30 PM at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth. Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Monday May 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Wadsworth United Methodist Church, 195 Broad St. Wadsworth with Rev. Jerry Penrod officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 10-11AM at the church.
Graveside services will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery in Canton, OH.
