Alan “Al” Henry Hilderbrand of Wadsworth, OH passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Cleveland Clinic from congestive heart failure.
Alan was born July 23, 1946 in Montgomery County, Maryland to the late Norman and Millicent Hilderbrand and was raised with two sisters, Jennee Chin and Gaye Schiller. Alan married the love of his life, Paula Sue (Fulton) Hilderbrand on November 19, 1983.
Alan is survived by his wife, Paula and daughter Dawn Clifton, his sister Jennee Chin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Chris and Craig Messner, sister-in-law Kathy Peace, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lyle and Cheryl Fulton many nieces and nephews and special friends Raymond Paul, Nolan Grant and Debbie Parker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Millicent Hilderbrand, sister Gaye Schiller and brother-in-law Mark Schiller, brother-in-law, Owen Chin; favorite uncle, Harvey Cooper and in-laws, Pinky and Janet Fulton.
Al was a selfless, compassionate and humorous person. He met Paula in 1981 at Westfield Companies where they became fast friends and later it turned into love. Along with his work at Westfield, Al was a volunteer EMT and Captain of the Westfield Fire Department from 1976 to 1983.
Al and Paula moved from Ohio to Texas and then to Georgia in 1986 and returned to Wadsworth in 2017. While in Georgia they spent many years enjoying the classic car hobby where Al was Club Treasurer of Corvair Atlanta for 10 years. They were both very active club members and enjoyed traveling to car shows on the weekends.
After moving to Wadsworth, Al became a member of the Wadsworth Lions Club and enjoyed the comradery every Thursday. AL was a PROUD veteran and served his country in the US Army 800 Military Police from Nov, 3, 1963 - Nov. 3, 1969.
The family will receive friends 2-5 pm Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth. A memorial service will follow at 5:00PM. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
