Donald C. Boatfield, 89, of Wadsworth, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 23, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born June 15, 1935 to Calvin and Ruth Downing in the town Oakfield, New York. He graduated in 1953 from Elba Central School and in 1959 from Alfred Technical Institute.
At the dance, after high school basketball game, Donald saw a blonde ponytail bouncing across floor and said to his friend “I want to dance with her”. After first date at a square dance, Sandra, could not resist tossing a snowball at him. After that he was smitten. He married Sandra Lange 2 years later and was happily married 65 years.
Donald and Sandra moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where he attended Kent State University, graduated 1963. He worked in public and corporate accounting for six years before passing the CPA exam in 1970. In August of 1971 he started his public accounting practice.
Donald and Sandra have four children: Lisa Dopilka (Dwight), Cynthia Hoglind (Jonathan), Rodney (Julie), Scott (Keidi). There are 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
At the end of 2005 Donald sold his practice to Scott his son and still kept involved in the practice by helping during tax time through his 88th year.
Donald and Sandra did a lot of travelling the U.S., Canada and Alaska until 2016. Donald always said there is so much to see in the U.S. and was not interested in travelling abroad.
Sandra was instrumental in Donald submitting his life to Jesus Christ and ultimately serving as treasurer of a number of churches in communities they resided in.
Donald was a member of Kiwanis for 28 years serving as President and Lt. Governor over 9 Kiwanis Clubs. He was instrumental in starting Key Club at Copley High School - a student community service club.
Served in the National Guard for 8 years.
He enjoyed playing Bridge (all card games), golfing, bowling, traveling, model railroading, reading, square dancing and sudoku. His sudoku skill went beyond “hard” to “evil” with very few numbers in the cells.
Survived by his wife, Sandra of 65 years. Survived by his sisters Diane Slominski and Dona Morgan of which are many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services on Saturday, September 7th at Northside Christian Church, 7615 Ridge Road, Wadsworth. Visitation at 10am and Service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, make a donation at a charity of your choice.
